​Welcome to the inaugural issue of Underbelly Press, an online literary magazine dedicated to unearthing the raw, unfiltered voices of the unheard. This issue would not have been possible without the dedication of our editorial team and the submissions from writers all over the world; writers who share our desire to shine a light on the often overlooked aspects of everyday life.

Underbelly Press was born out of a desire to provide a platform for voices who are seldom heard in mainstream literary circles. From the working class to the marginalised to the downtrodden and forgotten, our mission is to highlight gritty, authentic human experiences and to explore the beauty, struggle, and resilience found in unexpected places. Every piece in this issue has resonated in some way with our editors. The submissions we received were testament to the incredible talent that exists within our communities.

I am especially proud of the collaboration that has gone into creating this inaugural issue. Our editorial team is only small, made up of myself, Ellen and Raine, but we have worked tirelessly to ensure that we have done our submissions justice. My colleagues’ commitment and effort has been amazing and I am so grateful for their contributions.

I hope that Underbelly Press resonates with our readers as we continue on this journey. Our goal is to create a community where pieces buried by the norms and expectations of society can be celebrated and given the recognition they deserve.
